QR RIP

Sorry if you thought I might be writing about the demise of the QR Code.

The actual reverse. It seems that death could be the making of the QR Code with QR Code Memories.

A company in Dorset are using QR codes cut into the tombstone to give mourners, or passers by, the opportunity to link to the deceased's obituary of just a short piece of prose or memory

As can be seen from the description lifted from their website,
it is a really easy process, as the Tuttiett family discovered when they lost Tim

Tim’s wife, Gill explains; “Tim was a wonderful man, and had a huge character which impacted on a lot of people. When we chose to have his ashes buried and a memorial placed onto the grave, we were given the opportunity to have a QR code fitted. This has given us a chance to bring what Tim meant to us to many other people by way of the website, and helps us keep his memory alive.
The story did remind me of Spike Milligan's famous epitaph

'I told you I was ill'

which was recently voted the UK's favourite epitaph

Other favourites included

Oscar Wilde’s ‘Either those curtains go or I do’
Frank Sinatra’s ‘The best is yet to come’,

The One About QR Codes, Paypal and Retail

Of course we live in a digitally fuelled e-commerce world

But actually sometimes the idea of wandering down the aisles of a book store is appealing - especially if you are a fresher at college and the lecturer has just given you your reading list.

Now that causes an issue when in the first week of the new academic year all the students are rushing down to the campus book store.

So what about using QR codes of the most popular titles in the book store window to allow students to order as they walk past and before they've spent all their allowance on beer and pizza!

As soon as I do my book tour, I'll be sure to have QR codes promoting my book sales as the audience leave the auditorium

Perhaps we could see

Coffee shops sell their coffee beans for home delivery
Theatres promote their next production,
Museums remind visitors about their o-nline gift shops
Churches suggest Bible scriptures for the week

Random QR Sunday - Plus Infographic

As this QR Code appeared on the back page of the Metro newspaper and I was obviously scanning with my phone, it's good to see that I'm being directed to a mobile site

And if you're looking for more reasons as to why you need to have a mobile site, look no further than this infographic

Random QR Sunday

Grand Central think it's a great idea to have their train timetable on my phone

So do I...but the QR code becomes very difficult to scan behind the protective screen you have on the poster

Random QR Code Sunday

Just a few QR codes I came across this weekend

.....that perhaps could have been thought out a bit better

Dear Frankie and Bennys,if the restaurant is poorly lit..the QR code won't work ( it was so dark my camera wouldn't focus for the shot)

IMAG0447.jpg

But then, when it does why does it randomly
take me to registration page for VIP offers?

If the QR is meant to lead me to product information

IMAG0393.jpg

It's probably a good idea to make sure that I can see the information clearly on my mobile screen?

This is the actual size as it appeared on my screen

And I'm not sure why you had to waste the last third of the video by showing me the TV ad?

60 large-scale, science and innovation themed, images and messages are displayed in prime locations around the city of York to highlight the huge contributions across all areas of science and innovation from astronomy and the science of flight to geology and, more recently, biology and information technology.

The QR code takes you to a page that just repeats the information given on the display board. Not sure why you would send me somewhere to read something I have just read? Perhaps send me the list of other exhibits or where I can find them?

The QR Code Campaign That Might Work 10 Days A Year in the UK

For obvious reasons.....

Although, this week's weather forecast might prove me wrong...
